Remote Power Systems (RAPS) - Stand alone, off-Grid systems

Remote Area Power systems (RAPS) are aimed primarily for remote or isolated areas where a connection to the Grid is not possible, or it is too cost prohibitive.

These systems should ideally be designed for the needs of the individuals. Typically almost all RAPS sites have different requirements and need to be designed individually. It is therefore recommended that you have your Stand Alone System quoted to best suit your needs.

Typically the basic RAPS system will include;

  • A power source - Solar Panels and / or Wind Turbines
  • Batteries for power storage
  • DC power converter – Inverter
  • A backup power source – a Generator.

What size and how many solar panels, wind turbines and batteries etc you require will be dependent on your required power usage.

There are Federal Government rebates (RRPGP) available for stand alone (RAPS) systems. Depending on size and location these rebates can cover up 50% of the cost of the system (rebate of up to $40,000) if eligible.

You will also be able to claim your Renewable Energy Credits.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), also known as Renewable Energy Credits, and they are traded as environmental commodities.

These certificates can be sold and traded and the buyer of the REC can claim to have purchased renewable energy.

A certifying agency gives each REC a unique identification number to make sure it doesn't get double-counted. The REC can then be sold on the open market.  Under current legislation RECs can be sold every five (5) years for up to fifteen (15) years.  This will further reduce the payback period and cost of the installation for the system you install.
